Whale-watching Tours
(December thru April)

Each year about two thirds of the North Pacific Humpback whale population migrates to the Hawaiian waters. Whale watching season starts in late December through April. The humpback attains lengths of 40 to 52 feet and is one of the most acrobatic of all whales. On occasion it may perform a somersault by leaping from the water belly up, arching backwards, and plunging head first back into the water with a loud slapping sound. When making deep dives, it hunches it's back and rolls steeply forward, bringing it's tail vertically clear of the water. The Humpback is also probably the most vocal of all whales, making a great variety of sounds which it strings together to form a "song" that may last from 5 to 35 minutes.

Whales of the coast of Kauai

Other marine mammals that frequent our waters include the dolphins who are popularly noted for grace, playfulness, intelligence and friendliness to man. The Pilot and Killer whales are also part of the Delphinidae or dolphin family. Much larger in size, they are usually not thought of as dolphins. The dolphins you are most likely to see in Hawaii are the playful Spinner dolphin and the Bottle-nosed dolphin characterized by the "built in smile" formed by the curvature of its mouth. Dolphins are attracted by moving ships, often accompanying us or leaping alongside and sometimes riding the wave created by our moving bow. Our 2 hour whale watch includes an interesting narration by our marine naturalists. Delicious snacks, soft drinks and juices are provided.
