WHAT KIND OF FISHING DO WE DO ?

We specialize in Big Game Fish. We fish in waters 40 Fathoms (1 F = 6 ft.) and deeper. There are several ledges or "drop offs" as you travel away from shore. They are the 40 Fathoms ( 240ft ), 100 Fathoms ( 600f ), 500 Fathoms (3000 ft), 1000 Fathoms ( 6000 ft ) and 1500 Fathoms ( 9000 ft ) ledges.

Most of the fishing is done by trolling areas that have been productive along those deep ledges. We will also do some jigging or use bait (live or cut). Whatever tactic the situation calls for.

IS IT BEST FISHING IN THE MORNING ?
Not necessarily. In fact, sometimes the afternoon or evening bite can be better. Many different factors come into play some of which are the tides, direction and strength of ocean currents, water temperature, phase of the moon, your Horoscope? you may just be luckier in the afternoon. The reason we usually recommend the morning trip is because Trade Winds tend to strengthen during the day and be lighter in the morning.
WHAT KIND OF FISH WILL WE CATCH AND HOW BIG ARE THEY ?

The offshore species we go for are the PACIFIC BLUE MARLIN (largest fish boated on Konane Star 942 lb.). Other Billfish include the STRIPED MARLIN, Shortbill Spearfish, the very occasional Sailfish or Black Marlin.

The TUNA family includes the YELLOW FIN "Ahi" (largest on K. Star 225lb.), the BIGEYE "Ahipoonui", the ALBACORE "Ahi Tombo", the SKIPJACK "Aku", the MACKEREL TUNA (Kawakawa).

The slender hard running, fast swimming WAHOO "Ono" (Largest 63 lb.).

The colorful and spectacular DOLPHIN FISH "Mahi-mahi" (Largest 58 lb)

WHAT DO WE DO WITH THE FISH ?
We will cut one or two of the smaller fish (under 25 lb) that is great eating, and the crew will give you some NICE FISH FILETS (along with secret recipes) for the grill or BBQ. We can also SASHIMI some of it on board for you hardcore fish connoisseurs; just put in the special request with your Captain.

The bigger fish goes to market to help defray the huge costs associated with providing you, our honorable customers the very best fishing experience.

It also helps send our Captain's kids (four of them) to private schools.

We can arrange to have your TROPHY FISH mounted through GRAY TAXIDERMY.
CAN ANYONE DO IT ?

Absolutely; We encourage beginners to come and try their luck. Our crew will share their love of the ocean and unique experiences with you.

Every trip starts with a thorough briefing on the "HOW TO", "WHAT IF" and "IN THE EVENT OF" scenarios. The crew will be happy to coach you untill your fish is boated.

WHAT IS INCLUDED ?

Sodas, Fruit Juices, Ice Water throughout the trip; Coffee and light breakfast (a.m. trips); all the tackle, bait & lures needed to fish. You supply the luck.

Custom Catering can be arranged for private charters and events (ask us for a quote).

DO WE HAVE TO TIP THE CREW?

It is customary to tip the crew if you feel that you have been well served.

WHAT ABOUT SEASICKNESS ?

Kauai's waters can be a little on the "lively" side. We recommend that you consider taking seasickness medication such as DRAMAMINE or BONINE prior to boarding the vessel. If you are reading this on the Mainland and still planning your vacation I would recommend finding out from your local Pharmacy if you can purchase the Scopolamine Patches over the counter in the State where you live. If you can, I would arm myself with some before you come to Hawaii. In Hawaii, you will need a prescription. I always found those patches to work very well for my passengers who used them.

WHAT SHOULD I WEAR ?

Bathing Suit, Shorts, Hat, Sunglasses, Sunscreen, Camera, Light Jacket, or Windbreaker.
